In the Water
Thu 2 December 2010
Hi kids
Constable Chris and I are aware of the dangers for young children around water. We want to make sure that you have fun in the water this summer, so here are some important safety tips:
Around the pool:
- When you are swimming, always make sure that Mum, Dad or another adult are watching you at all times
- Never drink water from the pool
- After eating make sure you wait at least half an hour before swimming
- Make sure someone in your family is trained in first aid in case of an emergency
At the beach:
- Remember to always swim between the flags so the lifesavers are able to see you
- If there are no flags at the beach, speak to a lifesaver about the safest place to swim
- Always swim with a friend, never swim alone
- Never dive into water that you don’t know how deep it is
- Always wear sunscreen and put on a hat
Rivers, Lakes and Creeks:
- Never swim alone, swim with a friend
- Check that it’s ok to swim first
- Never dive into water that you don’t know how deep it is
On A Boat:
- Always let someone know where you are going
- Always wear a life jacket
- Make sure you have all the proper safety equipment on board
- Always wear sunscreen and put on a hat
