Missing Kayaker near Warrnambool

Police have resumed their search this morning for the missing kayaker in the Warrnambool area.

The 39-year-old Peterborough man left Childers Cove at 12:30pm on Monday 13 October to kayak to Peterborough, but when he had failed to arrive by 5:40pm the alarm was raised.

His broken kayak and life-jacket were recovered near Childers Cove.

Police will be assisted by SES and Parks Victoria personnel continuing searches along the coastline, with the Airwing expected to join the search later this morning.

Weather conditions will be assessed during the day with the possibility of a Fisheries and Wildlife vessel performing a sea search once the weather allows.

Police are also hoping to speak to two tourists who are believed to have seen the missing kayaker being dropped off by a friend at Childers Cove opn Monday.

The witnesses spoke to the friend shortly after the 39-year-old Peterborough man set off around 12.30pm.
