Application Processing Time

New firearm licence applications and the first application for a permit to acquire a firearm are subject to a mandatory 28-day waiting period.

The Licensing and Regulation Division processes new firearm licence applications, firearm licence renewals and permits to acquire applications as they are received.

We endeavour to process all applications within 28 calendar days of their receipt, however, new licences and first permit to acquire applications will not be issued in less than 28 days.

There may be instances where this timeframe is prolonged due to deficiencies in your application or the need to review your application more thoroughly.

We are unable to respond to enquiries relating to applications received within the last 28 days.

If 28 calendar days have elapsed since the date of receipt of your application and you require an update, please contact us via email with your full name, type of application, date of lodgement and licence number if available.
