Change of address, personal details or circumstance

Personal details

If you have a firearm licence or permit, you are required by law to notify Victoria Police's Licensing & Regulation Division in writing within 14 days of any changes to:

  • The name that appears on your licence or permit
  • The address which appears on your licence or permit
  • Your permanent place of residence
  • You postal address
  • The address where any firearm held under the licence is ordinarily stored
  • The address where you carry out your business if you are a licensed firearm dealer

You are breaking the law if you fail to do so.

You can email, post or fax a completed Change of Details form (PDF) to inform LRD your details have changed. You must provide LRD with certified copies of any supporting documentation (i.e. marriage certificate, deed poll etc).

Requests for change of address can also be submitted to LRD in writing via letter, email or fax. Please remember to provide the following details in your request:

  • your full name
  • your licence number; and
  • confirmation of whether your postal and ordinary storage address have also changed.

Once your request has been processed, LRD will send you an adhesive label printed with your new address that you will need to attach to the back of your plastic licence.
 

If you change your name, however, you will need to email, post or fax a completed Request for Duplicate Licence form (PDF) so LRD can send you a new payment notice. You will then need to take proof of identification and proof of payment to an approved photo point. LRD will not accept passport (or other) photos that have not been taken by an official at an authorised photo point unless you have completed this form declaring you cannot attend a Victorian photo point (PDF).

Business and club details

Dealers and clubs must notify Licensing & Regulation Division in writing immediately of any new or changed:

  • Nominated persons
  • Responsible persons
  • Natural persons
  • Partners
  • Close associates
  • Employees
  • Nominated officers

If a person taking on one of the roles listed above does not have a current Victorian firearm or private security licence, or a prohibited weapons approval, they must also submit a completed Personal Information form (PDF) to LRD.

Lost, stolen or damaged licences

You must notify Licensing & Regulation Division in writing as soon as practicable if your plastic licence is lost, stolen or damaged.

You will need to email, post or fax a completed Request for Duplicate Licence form (PDF) so LRD can send you a new payment notice. Disposing of firearms

You must notify Licensing & Regulation Division in writing as soon as practicable if you dispose of any of your firearms, particularly if you dispose of them interstate. If you dispose of a firearm to a police station, you should forward a copy of the property book receipt you receive to LRD. If you dispose of a firearm to a licensed firearm dealer, you should forward an updated firearms list to LRD.

It is recommended that you advise LRD of this change in writing.
