General Enquires

General enquires can be made by contacting the Licensing and Regulation Division via email or by calling our customer service line.

Submission of new applications

Applicants must return a printed copy of their completed application with all supporting documents via post to the Licensing and Regulation Division. Applications will not be accepted in person.

Submission of renewal applications

Renewal applications and payment notices sent to the recorded postal address of the holder eight weeks prior to the expiry of a current licence or registration.

Renewal applications can be returned via email, fax or post. Applications will not be accepted in person.

Failure to complete all steps of the renewal application process by expiry date of current licence may result in the expiry of your licence. 
 
If returning via email, please ensure your documents are scanned as photographs may not be of sufficient quality.

Appointments

Appointments to attend the Licensing and Regulation Division in person will only be made with those who:

  • Require an interview related to an application made under mutual recognition;
  • Require advice about licences or registrations that have been refused, suspended or cancelled; or
  • Need to discuss complex applications for business and corporate licences. 

Appointments will only be made during the following times:

  • Mondays and Fridays between 11:00am and 1:00pm (excluding public holidays)
  • Wednesdays between 11:00am and 3:00pm (excluding public holidays)

Appointments can only made by contacting our customer service line on 1300 651 645.

Documents and applications will not be accepted in person. Those who attend without an appointment will be turned away. 

Complaints and Compliments

Complaints and compliments relating to the Licensing and Regulation Division can be made by completing the Feedback Form. Forms can be submitted to feedback.lrd@police.vic.gov.au or via post to Licensing and Regulation Division, GPO Box 2807, Melbourne, VIC, 3001.

Privacy Statements

Information collected by the Licensing and Regulation Division during the course of licensing is being collected on behalf of Victoria Police. It will be used in accordance with the provisions of the Firearms Act 1996, Private Security Act 2004, Control of Weapons Act 1990 and Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. Your information may be disclosed to employers, approved bodies and other statutory authorities by Victoria Police for the purpose of law enforcement and the administration of justice. Applicants may gain access to their information through application to the Victoria Police Freedom of Information Unit.

Health information collected by the Licensing and Regulation Division during the course of licensing is being collected on behalf of Victoria Police. The health information collected will be used in accordance with the provisions of the Firearms Act 1996, Private Security Act 2004, Control of Weapons Act 1990 and Health Records Act 2001, and is required to be collected under the Firearms Act 1996. Your health information may be disclosed to approved bodies and/or statutory authorities for purposes related to the administration of the above Acts, for the purpose of law enforcement or, if necessary, for the establishment, exercise or defence of a legal or equitable claim. Applicants are able to gain access to their health information through application to the Victoria Police Freedom of Information Unit. Failure to provide the health information upon request may result in an application being refused or delayed.

The personal information collected by the Licensing and Regulation Division during the course of telephone enquiries is being collected on behalf of Victoria Police for the purpose of quality assurance and internal training purposes. It will be used in accordance with the provisions of the Firearms Act 1996, Private Security Act 2004, Control of Weapons Act 1990 and Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. Your information may be used for the purpose of law enforcement and the administration of justice. You may gain access to your personal information through application to the Victoria Police Freedom of Information Unit.
