A rare blue-and-gold macaw that was reported stolen last week has been found in Hampton East.

Roger, a two-year-old macaw, was reported missing by his owner Dale Lester when he came home from work on Friday night to find Roger’s cage open and the padlock on the ground.

A home owner in Hampton East noticed the exotic bird in his backyard yesterday and called police in the evening.

A police member from Moorabbin, a bird owner herself, responded to the call. Having had fruit salad for dinner during her shift , she took some of the leftovers in case the bird reacted to the food.

Upon arrival at the property, the police member fed Roger some of the grapes and, while he was eating, grabbed hold of him.

A relieved Mr Lester was notified and reunited with Roger later in the evening.
