Community Safety

The community safety section of the Victoria Police website provides informative safety tips and measures that you can take to ensure your safety. The site also provides the contact details of people who you can call for help and advice in a non-urgent situation.

Home and property

This section provides general security tips, information about how to secure your home while on holidays, how to organise a safe party, tips to prevent your car being stolen and theft from your vehicle.

Road safety

The road safety section touches on many aspects of driving and using Victoria’s roads. Speed, alcohol and drugs, fatigue, seatbelts, mobile phones, what to do if the car breaks down, motorcycle safety, older drivers, young drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, trucks and heavy vehicles, and how to stay safe in your car are included.

Your schools and neighbourhood

Here you will find information about safety while in and around your neighbourhood, safety houses and tips for children walking to school.

Personal, child and family

In this section you will find information about fraud, drink spiking, family violence, preventing homophobic crime, racial and religious vilification, identity theft, and advice for older Victorians.

Business and commercial

Find information about securing your business with the Business Security Kit, preventing armed robbery and inform your staff about things they can do to ensure their personal safety at work.

Online

Keep your family safe online with information in this section about chatroom safety, laptop and electronic device security and online fraud.

Fraud

Find out more about fraud and scams, how to report it and most importantly, how to avoid falling victim.

The Victoria Police Search and Rescue Squad (SARS) has created this page to provide people with information about outdoor and bush safety.
