Grace loves country policing in Wonthaggi, and being part of the community she works in.
Video transcript
I love country policing because you're part of the community that you're policing.
It's always great seeing familiar faces. Everybody says g’day. They know that they can reach out if they do ever need help.
You can spend the time with people and actually see results.
I joined in January 2022. And then I got posted to SD3 (Southern Division, Cranbourne), which is one of the busiest stations in Victoria.
I spent nine months there. Although I absolutely loved it, coming home is where I belong.
I grew up here in Leongatha, and I've been lucky enough to get a job in Wonthaggi.
This is my second week, and I'm absolutely loving it.
Getting this spot back here means the world to me because that's where I joined the police force, to be a country cop.
So, I joined in my thirties. I wanted to make policing a career.
I knew it would be challenging. Every day would be different. There's so many different routes you can take, it's never ending the possibilities.
Yeah, we're really close-knit group. Everyone's always asking if you need a hand or what they can do to help. My sergeants and senior sergeants are always really supportive, you're supported by a really amazing team wherever you go.
It's pretty special to be a cop in my local community, working and living so close to the coast. And it's not such a long commute. I've only got between 10 and 20 minutes to get home.
I just love the people you meet, knowing your community and seeing a difference that you can make.
It's a great job. And it's so exciting to just be at the start of my career, learning country policing and there's just so many options moving forward.
