A day in the life of a police custody officer
"Being a PCO day-to-day jobs are different.
"You could be going to court with persons in custody, you could be issuing equipment."
"And I think some people believe that it's more of a security guard role where there's a bit of rough and tumble, it's not like that at all."
"Our core duties are the management and welfare of people brought into police custody, and helping them get through a difficult time in their life. What I love most about this job is the teamwork, and being challenged. It keeps you on your toes.
"Within the station we are all one team, regardless of what uniform we wear."
"I find our team is very good and supportive."
"We get on well with all the police members, all the crime units, everyone's supportive, we all look out for each other."
"There are definitely a lot of benefits working for Victoria Police."
"Good shift rates, good rosters."
"It gives me ample time to do the things I enjoy."
"You also get penalty rates for working weekends, afternoon shifts and night shifts, which can really supplement your income."
"If you're looking for a challenge, if you're looking to learn and are compassionate, this is an excellent place to start."
