Man charged following Melbourne CBD stabbing

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a stabbing in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.

Police will allege a 32-year-old man armed with a knife and acting erratically, ran through a shopping centre carpark on Lonsdale Street about 6am.

Two bystanders gave chase, south along Elizabeth Street, before detaining the man near the intersection of Lonsdale Street.

Police were immediately on scene and took the Dallas man into custody.

A 41-year old Maddingley man who was involved in the arrest, received a stab wound to the lower body.

He was transported to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

A second person involved in the arrest, a 35-year-old Sanctuary Lakes Man, was uninjured.

The 32-year-old Dallas man ha been charged with affray, recklessly cause injury and use controlled weapon without excuse.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight.

Following the recent stabbing on Little Bourke Street, the Public Order Response Team (PORT) have increased patrols across Melbourne’s CBD to detect and deter crime.
