Homicide Squad detectives believe a $1 million reward could hold the key to solving the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy in 1975.

Maryborough boy Terrence Floyd disappeared while on his way home from nearby Avoca on 28 June.

Terry was last hitchhiking on the Pyrenees Highway between Avoca and Maryborough about 4pm.

Investigations have lead police to believe he was abducted and killed.

Despite extensive investigations and searches spanning 35 years, his body has never been found.

Detectives have recently launched a fresh appeal for anyone with information that can help solve this historic crime.

Homicide Squad officer-in-charge Detective Inspector John Potter urged anyone with information the disappearance of Terry to come forward.

“The $100,000 reward previously on offer has been increased to up to $1 million in the hope that someone can provide that key piece of information that will bring Terry’s killer to justice and provide the Floyd family with closure,” he said.

“We believe there is someone out there that knows what happened to Terry and after more than three decades his family deserves to finally lay him to rest.

“If anyone in the community knows where he is then we ask them to contact police.”

A reward of up to $1M will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police, for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Terry Floyd.

The Director of Public Prosecutions will consider, according to established guidelines, the granting of indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders in this matter.
