The Film and Television Office provides specialist services and advice for Victorian productions.
We support on-screen, audio and written productions that feature police and police procedures.
What the Film and Television Office does
We will provide you with a range of services and resources to create a realistic and safe production.
The services we provide include:
- traffic management
- research assistance
- uniform and equipment hire
- notification for filming
- police on screen.
We support companies and organisations such as:
- local and international film, television and audio only media companies
- independent and student filmmakers
- educational organisations
- authors and publishers
- government agencies such as VicScreen, Transport Accident Commission , local councils and the Department of Transport and Planning.
Research assistance
We offer research assistance to improve your production’s authenticity.
This includes checking scripts, and providing advice on procedures, props and uniforms. We also consult on podcasts and books.
We provide some traffic management services for high-risk filming activities on public roads. This support is available seven days a week.
The Current Fees and Charges document details the rates for:
- on-site assistance
- traffic management
- research assistance
- police interviews.
There is a minimum call-out fee of four hours for each police officer assigned to traffic management and on-site duties.
Fees are charged for the first hour, and then every half hour after.
Cancellation of services may attract a four-hour call-out fee for each police officer.
If you fail to follow Victoria Police directions during filming, we may withdraw our services. This will render your permit null and void.

Notification of filming
It is recommended, and often a permit requirement, that you notify us when:
- your production may be seen or heard by members of the public and
- the activity may cause public alarm.
Notifying us isn’t approval of your activity. You must get approval from a relevant land or road management authority before filming begins.
