The Air Wing have rescued a cyclist who was stranded for four hours in the Snowy River last night.

The experienced cyclist was riding through the Suggan Buggan area when they began to cross the Snowy River just before 8pm.

The water level had risen higher than expected and they became stranded with their bike halfway across, clinging onto the reeds.

The well-equipped cyclist activated a satellite communication device and subsequently the Rescue and Coordination Centre (RCC) were notified and dispatched the Air Wing to the coordinates.

Officers from the Air Wing were overhead and began scouring the landscape before noticing a fellow cyclist who was on the riverbank.

Nearby, they observed the stranded rider in the middle of the river.

The Air Wing lowered down an officer to rescue the cyclist and brought them to safety just after 12am.

The 31-year-old was taken to hospital for assessment but luckily remained physically uninjured.
