Nunawading Highway Patrol have impounded an allegedly speeding vehicle 78km/h over the limit on the Monash last night.
Patrolling officers caught sight of a blue Mazda sedan allegedly flying along the freeway about 9.45pm.
The Mazda was clocked travelling at an alleged speed of 178km/h in a 100 zone.
Police pulled the car over and driver allegedly stated he had to get home early as he had a flight in the morning.
The 31-year-old man is expected to be charged on summons for speeding.
The Mazda was impounded at a cost of $1046 and the man may need a lift to the airport this morning.
