Appeal for witnesses following Cobblebank fatal hit-run

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have released CCTV footage to appeal for information one month on from a fatal hit-run in Cobblebank.

Emergency services were called to Western Freeway, west of Mount Cottrell Road, after a member of the public located a man with life-threatening injuries about 7am on Thursday, 8 May.

The 34-year-old man of no fixed address was transported to hospital, where he later died on Monday, 12 May.

Detectives have carried out extensive investigations and now believe the man was struck by a vehicle around an hour before he was located, between 5.52am and 5.55am.

The driver did not stop at the scene.

Police have released CCTV footage of seven vehicles travelling northbound on Mount Cottrell Road, just before they merge onto the Western Highway.

They believe the drivers of these vehicles may have witnessed the incident and might be able to assist with their enquiries.

At this stage in the investigation, the make, model and colour of the seven vehicles are unclear. The CCTV shows:

- a dark coloured car

- another dark coloured car

- a light-coloured SUV, believed to be a Ford Ranger

- a medium sized car

- a light-coloured SUV, believed to be a Hyundai Palisade

- a dark-coloured SUV

- a white utility duel cab – possibly a Mitsubishi Triton or a Toyota Fortuna

Detectives remain hopeful that someone may have witnessed the incident and they are appealing for anyone in the area at the time of the collision to check their dashcam footage.
