Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after an assault in South Yarra yesterday.
It is understood a man first approached a tow truck driver on Toorak Road about 4.40pm.
Detectives have been told a verbal altercation occurred, before the man assaulted the driver.
It is believed the man then got on board the tow truck and attempted to remove the vehicle.
Officers attended the scene and arrested the 37-year-old Kalorama man.
He was taken to hospital under police guard for unrelated injures and is expected to be interviewed in relation to the incident.
The driver, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.
Investigators are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident, or with any footage.
