A Ferrari has been taken off the roads after allegedly driving at a high rate of speed in Tambo Upper on 22 December.

Bairnsdale Highway Patrol officers were patrolling along Stephensons Road when they detected a 2008 F430 Ferrari allegedly driving at 194km/h in a 80km/h speed zone about 3.20pm.

The luxury sports car was intercepted and impounded on the spot at a cost of $1625.

The driver will appear at a magistrates court at a later date to answer charges of drive at speed dangerous and exceeding the speed limit.

The detection forms part of Operation Roadwise, a statewide road policing operation conducted over the Christmas and New Year period.
Police are targeting impaired driving, speed, and distraction offences in an effort to reduce road trauma, with motorists warned to expect to be tested for alcohol and drugs anywhere, anytime.
