Police are appealing for public assistance to identify a Box Hill thief with a fondness for figurines, trading cards and board games.

The male offender was playing a game of chance when he attended a shop on Whitehorse Road on four separate occasions earlier this year.

Police believe the man attended the store on the following dates:

  • about 7.15pm on Wednesday the 28th of January
  • between 7pm and 8pm on Monday 2 February
  • between 7pm and 8pm on Tuesday 3 February
  • about 10pm on Saturday 10 February

One each occasion the man placed items in his jumper, leaving the store without making an effort to pay.

The man had an appetite stronger than a hungry hippo for board games, trading card deck boxes, anime statues and figurines all to the value of approximately $2100.

Some of the stolen stock included Jurassic Park, Avengers, Godzilla and Dungeons and Dragons items.

Investigators are working to determine the identity of the man, with no plans to allow him to pass go nor collect $200.

Police have released CCTV footage and an image of a man who they believe can assist them with the investigation.

The man is perceived to be Asian in appearance, aged in his late teens or 20’s, with black shoulder length hair.

Anyone who can assist in identifying the man or with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or anonymously at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
