Boy dies following collision in Dandenong North

A 12-year-old boy has died following a multi-vehicle collision in Dandenong North last week.

Emergency services responded to reports five cars had collided out-bound on the Monash Freeway, near the Stud Road off ramp, just after 2pm on Sunday 12 April.

Two occupants of a Mazda 3, a 46-year-old Sunbury woman and a 12-year-old boy, were both taken to hospital with critical injuries.

The boy sadly died in hospital yesterday, while the woman remains in hospital.

A third occupant of the Mazda, an 8-year-old girl, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Three occupants of a blue Mitsubishi, a 68-year-old Campbellfield woman, a 39-year-old Glenroy woman and a 6-year-old girl, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of a BMW, a Volkswagen Tiguan and a white Mitsubishi were not injured.

The driver of Volkswagen, a 34-year-old Berwick man, was arrested and released pending further enquiries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
