Charges following Prahran incident

Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged three teenaged boys, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman following an incident in Prahran this morning.

Five people were arrested after officers located an allegedly stolen vehicle in Prahran about 4.40am.

Public Order Response Team members initially noticed two people on Greville Street allegedly wearing hoodies and balaclavas.

The pair were followed to St Edmonds Road and approached a Mazda CX9 with three people on board.

Police moved in and arrested all five people after the Mazda, which was bearing false plates, was confirmed stolen and two jerry cans full of fuel were found in the car.

The three boys, from Hume, Darebin and Moreland, have been charged with theft of motor vehicle and were bailed to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.

A 19-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing and a 20-year-old woman from Thornhill Park were charged with theft of motor vehicle and were bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 2 September.
