Child dies in West Melbourne collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in West Melbourne this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports four vehicles had collided on Dynon Road just before 4.30pm.

A 2-year-old girl in one of the vehicles died at the scene.

The driver of that vehicle, a 30-year-old man, was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Three passengers, a 30-year-old woman, 4-year-old boy and 11-month-old boy, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of a second vehicle, a 62-year-old man, was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

He was arrested and remains in a stable condition under police guard.

The driver and sole occupants of two other vehicles, a 30-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.

Investigators wish to speak to the driver of a dark coloured Tesla in the vicinity of the collision who may be able assist by providing dashcam footage of the incident.

There is no suggestion this vehicle was involved in any offending and is simply a potential witness to the collision.
