Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following the death of a man in Cobblebank this week.
Officers were called to Western Freeway, west of Mount Cottrell Road, following a report of an injured man found on the side of the road about 7am on Thursday, 8 May.
The man, who has since been identified as a 34-year-old of no fixed address, was initially conveyed to hospital with life-threatening-injuries.
Sadly, he died in hospital on Monday, 12 May.
Investigators believe the man was hit by a large vehicle, which did not remain at the scene.
At this stage in the investigation, it is unclear the make, model, or colour of the vehicle.
Detectives remain hopeful someone in the area may have witnessed the incident and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to check their dashcam footage.
Investigators are especially keen to speak to anyone who was travelling between Mount Cottrell Road and Ferris Road at the time.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, with any information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
