Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a man was assaulted in Berwick earlier this week.

Investigators have been told a man was seen calling for help inside a grey Toyota Yaris on McGregor Road in Pakenham about 9.50pm on Monday 22 December.

Witnesses followed the vehicle which was seen driving erratically before the man jumped from the vehicle on Homestead Road in Berwick.

The Toyota stopped and three occupants exited the vehicle, assaulting the man prior to fleeing in the same vehicle.

Witnesses stopped to render assistance to the man, driving him to a nearby carpark where emergency services were called.

A 23-year-old man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established, however at this stage it is believed the parties were known to one another.
