Do you want charges with that? Speeding stolen car recovered in Laverton

An alleged driver and passenger have been charged after a stolen vehicle reached alleged speeds of 150km/h and was recovered at a Laverton North fast-food restaurant over the weekend.

Officers on patrol caught site of a Grey Mazda 6 reaching alleged high speeds about 9.30pm on Friday night.

Police followed the vehicle into a service station on Morris Road in Truganina.

The Mazda allegedly took off at speed preventing police from intercepting it.

A short time later the vehicle was seen pulling into a fast-food restaurant carpark in Laverton North.

Checks on the vehicle revealed it had been reported as stolen.

The alleged driver got out of the vehicle and went into the restaurant.

Officer moved in, secure the vehicle and arrested both the alleged driver and passenger.

The alleged driver, a 23-year-old Tarneit man, was charged with handle stolen goods, reckless conduct endangering life, drive manner dangerous and other driving offences.

The man was remanded to appear before a Magistrate’s court on a later date.

The alleged passenger, a 27-year-old Thornhill man, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and handle stolen goods.

He is bailed to appear before a Magistrate’s court on 25 June.

Investigators allege the Mazda was stolen from Mitcham address on 27 May.
