Duo charged after stolen vehicle tracked across Victoria's west

Police have charged two men after an allegedly stolen Toyota Landcruiser was tracked from Kyneton to Rushworth on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers from Kyneton received information the stolen Toyota was in the vicinity of the train station on Mollison Street about 11.50am.

The vehicle allegedly fled before police arrived and Air Wing were called in to assist who subsequently picked up the Toyota travelling on High Street.

The Toyota drove towards Baynton where it avoided stop sticks near Burke and Wills Track and Darlington Road and continued towards Heathcote.

Stop sticks were successfully deployed on the Rushworth-Nagambie Road and the Toyota eventually stopped outside the Rushworth Police Station, with the two male occupants surrendered to police.

A search of the Toyota allegedly revealed an amount of drugs, fraudulent cash and stolen property.

The men, a 36-year-old from Trentham and 27-year-old from Tongala, were charged with an array of offences including theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police and fail to stop on police direction.

They were both remanded in custody to appear at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on 7 August.

It is alleged the Toyota was stolen from Woodend between 26 and 27 July.
