Duo charged following Hawthorn aggravated burglaries

Two teenage boys have been charged following two aggravated burglaries in Hawthorn during the early hours of this morning.

A homeowner of a premises on Elphin Grove was awoken by his dog barking about 2.30am.

Upon investigating he located and confronted one of the boys who entered via an unlocked doggy door, pushing him out of his residence.

About an hour later it’s alleged one of the same teens was chased down and restrained by a homeowner after entering the unlocked back door of his Kinkora Road home.

It’s alleged the resident heard a noise and went downstairs to investigate, disturbing two offenders about 3.25am.

The 47-year-old resident confronted the pair who ran from the scene.

He chased down and restrained one of the boys until police arrived.

A 15-year-old boy from Boroondara area and a 14-year-old boy from Whittlesea area were both charged with two counts of aggravated burglary – person present.

Detectives are currently making an application to have the duo remanded.
