A 26-year-old motorcyclist who had only held his learner’s permit for several months was allegedly caught travelling at nearly 100km/h over the speed limit at Longwarry North yesterday morning.

Cardinia Highway Patrol members were on patrol when a blue motorcycle that appeared to be travelling well over the speed limit along the Princes Highway drew their attention about 11.50am.

Officers will allege that as the rider continued onto Princes Way, they were able to take a speed reading of 171km/h in an 80km/h zone.

They were able to intercept the motorcyclist who revealed he only had a learner’s permit.

The Drouin man is expected to be charged by summons with exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more and speed dangerous.

He will also have to pay $1291 to have his bike released from the impound yard in 30 days.
