Fatal house fire in Werribee

Police are investigating a fatal house fire in Werribee this morning.

Emergency services responded to reports of the fire at a Newbury Street residence just after midnight.

Crews extinguished the blaze, which had fully engulfed the home, before locating a child deceased inside.

A 39-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 40-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy were uninjured.

An arson chemist will attend the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated however at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious.
