North West Metro Regional Crime Squad detectives have charged a man with 14 offences and seized more than a dozen firearms following a thorough investigation to get guns off our streets.
Detectives executed search warrants earlier this morning at addresses on Ford Avenue in Sunshine North, Whitesides Avenue in Sunshine West and at a business on Ashley Street in Braybrook.
Investigators seized six firearms at the Sunshine North address as well as other items including:
• two loaded .22 calibre handguns
• an unloaded .22 calibre handgun
• a Category E handgun
• two adapted / homemade firearms
• two suppressors / silencers
• knuckledusters
• partially assembled firearms and firearms parts
• items associated with the manufacture of firearms
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the Sunshine West address.
He was charged with 14 firearms offences including possession of a traffickable quantity of firearms, non-prohibited person possess a handgun without licence and manufacture firearm.
He will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
