Four teenagers were arrested after they crashed an allegedly stolen Audi in Bentleigh last night.
Emergency services received reports of the Audi A2 driving erratically on the Nepean Highway shortly before 6pm.
The vehicle crashed into a sign near the intersection of Venebere Street and the four occupants ran from the scene.
Trailing officers quickly arrived and apprehended a 16-year-old boy from the Frankston area.
Two other youths ran into the backyard of a Tovan Aker Avenue home where they were confronted by the occupants.
An 18-year-old Cranbourne man jumped several fences before detectives caught up with him in the rear yard of a nearby address.
A 16-year-old boy from the Greater Dandenong area found himself taking an unexpected dip after climbing a fence and landing in a backyard swimming pool.
A resident managed to restrain the boy until police arrived and took him into custody.
The fourth alleged offender, a 16-year-old from the Cardinia area, was scooped up in a nearby laneway with assistance from a member of the public.
The three 16-year-olds were charged with theft of motor vehicle and bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
The 18-year-old was also charged with theft of motor vehicle and bailed to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 4 August.
Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the vehicle driving in the area prior to the collision or anyone who has dashcam footage.
