Four men charged after coppers stop copper theft in Fyansford

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged four men following an alleged copper theft at a recycling plant in Fyansford yesterday.

Police were on patrol along Hamilton Highway when they were flagged down by workers at the site and told copper was allegedly being stolen by four unknown males about 3.20am.

As officers moved in to arrest the men, it is alleged they entered a stolen Toyota Prado and collided with a police vehicle while attempting to flee.

Officers arrested a 33-year-old Craigieburn man, a 49-year-old Sunshine West man as well as a 39-year-old man and 40-year-old man from Albanvale.

The 33-year-old was charged with theft of motor vehicle (x2), theft, going equipped to steal, commit indictable offence whilst on bail, possess methylamphetamine and possess drug of dependence.

He was remanded to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The remaining three men were each charged with offences including theft of motor vehicle (x2), theft and going equipped to steal.

They were bailed to appear before Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 13 October.
