Girl charged following South Morang and Mernda robberies and assaults

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenage girl following three alleged assault incidents at railway stations in Melbourne’s north.

It is alleged a 15-year-old girl approached a 16-year-old female victim in the waiting area at South Morang railway station about 2pm on Saturday, 25 April.

She allegedly assaulted the victim before stealing personal items including a handbag, jewellery, cosmetics and a vape.

The 16-year-old girl sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The offender fled the scene.

Two days later, the 15-year-old girl allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old boy with a glass bottle at South Morang railway station about 4.15pm on Monday, 27 April.

The boy later attended hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The girl allegedly fled the scene on a train to Mernda railway station.

A short time later, it is alleged two female offenders approached a 15-year-old girl inside a lift at Mernda railway station about 4.40pm.

The teenagers allegedly assaulted the victim, then stole her phone, Air Pods and wallet.

The girl sustained minor injuries and the offenders fled on foot.

Police arrested a 15-year-old girl from the Whittlesea area today.

She was interviewed by detectives and charged with two counts of robbery, three counts of recklessly cause injury, intentionally cause injury and unlawful assault.

She will appear at a children’s court this afternoon.

The investigation remains ongoing.
