Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Wollert this morning.
Police were told the male victim was approached by an unknown male offender in a laneway behind a Champions Parade residential address shortly before 9am, resulting in the victim being shot.
The offender fled the scene in a vehicle.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services to revive the 21-year-old man, he was declared deceased at the scene.
No arrests have been made at this stage and a crime scene has been established.
At this early stage in the investigation, detectives believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
Members are also investigating whether a car fire on Amery Street in Reservoir a short time later is linked.
