Lesson learned - but at what cost?

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers have taken an inexperienced learner driver off the road after he was allegedly caught driving over 220km/h in Mulgrave this morning.

Officers were conducting speed checks on vehicles on the Monash Freeway when they detected an Audi travelling at an alleged speed of 226km/h in a 100km/h zone about 3am.

Police intercepted the vehicle near Jacksons Road and spoke to the L-plater.

The learner was accompanied by an adult passenger however she was allegedly a disqualified driver.

The driver, a 23-year-old Narre Warren man, is expected to be charged on summons with unaccompanied learner and speeding offences.

The Audi was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1016.
