Life-threatening collision on Monash Freeway

Police are investigating a collision in Wheelers Hill this afternoon.

It is understood a car and a motorcycle collided on the Monash Freeway, near the Wellington Road exit, at 12.47pm.

Officers have been told the rider was riding in tandem with another motorcycle at the time of the collision.

The second rider was not injured and has since been arrested by police.

He is expected to be interviewed in relation to the incident.

The male rider was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The male driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene.

Four inbound and four outbound lanes remain closed.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are attending the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
