Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man overnight following an aggravated burglary and kidnapping in Alfredton earlier this month.

Emergency services were initially called to a report of an altercation between a man and a woman outside a residential property about 12.30am on 4 October.

The pair then left the property on foot.

The 27-year-old Alfredton woman was subsequently located at the same Alfredton address shortly before 6.15am that same morning.

She was not physically injured.

A search for the 32-year-old Lake Garden man allegedly involved in the incident has taken place since that date.

At 2.45pm yesterday (Wednesday, 15 October), an off-duty police member recognised the man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the Delacombe area.

Local police were called, and the man was intercepted in the car park of the town centre and taken into custody.

A search of his car located what appear to be drugs of dependence.

He has since been charged with kidnapping (common law), aggravated burglary – person present, criminal damage, false imprisonment, common law assault and possess drug of dependence.

The man was remanded overnight and will appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court this morning

Police believe the parties involved are known to each other.
