Man charged following Altona North shooting

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after shots were fired into a business in Altona North on 12 May.

Police allege shots were fired from a blue station wagon into a business on Borrack Square just after 5.30pm.

Luckily, no one was injured during the incident.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man at 5pm on Friday 29 May outside Broadmeadows Police Station, with the assistance of the Special Operations Group (SOG).

A vehicle related to the man was searched at the scene and investigators located an allegedly stolen sawn-off shotgun with cartridges and a high calibre revolver handgun with ammunition.

The Gladstone Park man was charged with:

  • Discharge Firearm at Premises with Reckless Disregard for Safety While Carrying Out Serious Indictable Offence (Reckless Conduct Endanger Life)
  • Discharge Firearm at a Premises
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle (x2)
  • Handle Stolen Goods
  • Possess Firearm When Firearm Prohibition Order Applies (x2)
  • Prohibited Person Possess Firearm

He was also charged with aggravated burglary and criminal damage by fire following an incident at a business on Mickleham Road, Tullamarine on 4 May 2026.

He is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

A 36-year-old Gladstone Park woman, who was in the company of the male at the time of his arrest, was also arrested and interviewed in relation to unrelated matters.

She was released pending further enquiries.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
