Police have charged a man following an alleged aggravated burglary in Ascot Vale this morning.
Officers responded to reports of a man allegedly breaking through the front door of the Savige Street home about 2.05am.
A man was arrested at the property and police seized a sledgehammer, an iron bar and an imitation firearm wrapped in a black sheet.
A woman and three children home at the time were not physically injured.
It is alleged the man mistakenly entered a different address to the one he intended.
The man was charged with aggravated burglary (offensive weapon), going equipped to steal and commit indicatable offence whilst on bail.
He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
Operation Trinity is dedicated to targeting burglars and car thieves from dusk to dawn across Melbourne.
On top of standard patrols, there are large numbers of additional police including members of the Dog Squad, Public Order Response and Air Wing, specifically tasked with preventing and responding to burglaries and car thefts each night.
As a result of this intense focus, police arrested 672 burglars and car thieves almost 1,675 times in the twelve months to the end of October 2025.
