Man charged following Ascot Vale fatal stabbing

Homicide Squad detectives have this morning charged an 18-year-old man following a fatal stabbing in Ascot Vale yesterday afternoon.

The man, of no fixed place of address, was charged with intentionally cause injury, affray, escape custody and theft.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The charges follow an incident where emergency services were called to reports of a man found with stab wounds on Maribyrnong and Union roads about 3.45pm on Sunday, 7 December.

A 40-year-old man from Ascot Vale was conveyed to hospital with life threatening injuries, where he later died.

Police arrested the 18-year-old man on Ascot Street at approximately 4pm and are actively searching for a second male who fled the scene prior to police arrival.

There is an increased police presence in the area.

The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
