Man charged following Eganstown fatal collision

Major Collison Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision in Eganstown last year.

It is understood a Mazda utility and a MG wagon collided on Midland Highway just before midday on Monday, 12 May 2025.

The two occupants of the MG, a 55-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman from Trentham, died at the scene.

At the time, the sole occupant of the utility, a 31-year-old Cardigan man, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives have charged the now 32-year-old driver of the Mazda with:

  • (2x) Culpable driving causing death
  • (2x) Dangerous driving causing death
  • Drive whilst exceeding prescribed concentration of drugs
  • Breach alcohol interlock condition
  • Careless driving
  • Fail to keep left
  • Fail to display p plates
  • (2x) Possess prohibited weapon.

He was bailed to appear before Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on 23 April.
