Ballarat police have charged a man following an incident at an Islamic event in Alfredton earlier this year.
It is alleged the man assaulted people and made abusive remarks at a venue on Donegal Drive about 9.25pm on 8 March.
There were no reported physical injuries.
The 37-year-old man was detained by people at the venue until police arrived.
He was arrested and removed from the premises.
Since the incident, police have engaged with local Islamic community groups, local government and people who attended the event.
The Alfredton man has now been charged with:
- make threats to kill
- threaten physical harm on ground of protected attribute
- assaulting person attending religious assembly
- unlawful assault
- disturbing religious assembly
He was summonsed to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on 10 September.
