Man charged following Port Melbourne aggravated burglary

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged aggravated burglary in Port Melbourne earlier this week.

Police were called to a home on Lalor Street where it’s alleged the man removed a window flywire screen and entered the premises shortly before 6am on Tuesday 28 April.

The man is alleged to have fled the scene in possession of several stolen items after being disturbed by the elderly female occupant.

A 24-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested nearby after its alleged he returned to the scene a short time later.

A search of man resulted in locating the occupants stolen bag, keys and phone.

He was charged with aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary (2) and theft.

He was remanded into custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 11 May.
