Man charged following Yarra Junction stabbing

Police have charged a man following a stabbing in Yarra Junction last night.

Emergency responded to reports a man had been stabbed on Hillview Street about 6.25pm.

The 38-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital, where he remains.

The offender allegedly fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Following a thorough search by investigators a 40-year-old Yarra Junction man was arrested in Yarra Junction about 8pm.

It is alleged the people involved are known to each other and no parties remain outstanding.

The 40-year-old has been charged with:

• intentionally cause serious injury

• recklessly cause serious injury

• criminal damage

• unlawful assault

• use controlled weapon without lawful excuse

• commit indictable offence on bail

He is remanded to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
