A man has been charged after it is alleged threats were made following an aggravated burglary in Northcote last night.

Police were called to reports of a man stealing keys to a vehicle from a gymnasium on Arthurton Road about 8.30pm.

It is alleged the same man was interrupted by the vehicle’s owner, after he gained access to both a carpark and the vehicle a short time later.

Allegedly caught rummaging through the car’s contents, the man made threats and fled the scene on foot.

No one was physically injured.

Both police and Protective Service Officers moved in and promptly searched the area.

A man was swiftly arrested without further incident.

A 21-year-old Collingwood man has been charged with aggravated burglary and theft.

He is remanded to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
