Man charged for spate of graffiti at South Yarra synagogue

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a spate of graffiti attacks on a South Yarra synagogue throughout this year.

Detectives arrested a 37-year-old man when investigators executed a search warrant at his South Yarra home this morning.

Investigators seized items allegedly related to the offending and charged him with:

  • Six counts of criminal damage
  • Six counts of mark offensive graffiti
  • Five counts of use unregistered motor vehicle
  • Five counts of unlicenced driving; and
  • One count of failing to stop on police direction.

He has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 21 November.

The charges relate to criminal damage at a Toorak Road synagogue on:

  • 11 March
  • 21 June
  • 22 June
  • 22 July
  • 30 July
  • 19 August.
