A man remains in hospital under police guard following a fatal crash in Dandenong South this morning.
Emergency services were called South Gippsland Highway scene after reports a vehicle lost control and crashed about 1.50am.
Sadly one of the passengers, a 21-year-old man from Cranbourne, died at the scene.
The other passenger, a 20-year-old man from Narre Warren South, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 23-year-old driver from Cranbourne was taken to hospital under police guard.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and whether speed was a factor.
The South Gippsland Highway is expected to remain closed, between Greens Road and the Dandenong Bypass, until after midday.
