I don't think anyone should be afraid of starting this career later in life. For the best part of ten years, I hosted breakfast radio shows around Australia, and I was interviewing celebrities and giving away holidays and cars, and it was great fun.

But I'm a family man now and it was difficult to balance family life and work life with that particular job.

Victoria Police really suited me because I'd spoken to some cops and I was well aware that there was a family-work balance that I thought was appropriate for me at my age and also my level of experience.

One of the things I'm really passionate about is community engagement, so I love visiting the schools. Particularly the really little kids, the kindergarten kids, the preppies, the grade ones.

And I think it's really important for them to have some positive interactions with the police from such an early age. So if I can facilitate that, that's a really fun day at work for me.

It's amazing how one day can be completely different from another. So if you're looking for a job that doesn't guarantee a 9 to 5 list of things that you need to tick off, then this would be the right job for you.

I think the thing that I have loved most about doing the job has been the people that I've gotten to work with.

Everyone works with a good sense of humour, there’s a real camaraderie. They make the days really fun.

I don't think anyone should be afraid of starting this career later in life.

If you're considering joining Victoria Police, don’t let your age or how many careers you've had before affect your decision making when it comes to applying.

One of the things I'm really passionate about is community engagement. So I love visiting the schools, and I think it's really important for them to have some positive interactions with the police from such an early age.

So if I can facilitate that, that's a really fun day at work for me.

If I can go home at night and I can feel like I've contributed something to the community, well that's a pretty good day for me.
