Glenda Mawson - Police Custody Officer

Glenda Mawson: I wanted a fresh new challenge, I’d heard about this role, I just thought “this is it, this is what I want” and went from there. The flexibility of shift work is fabulous I love it.

I’ve come across a lot of people from different backgrounds, different races, different lifestyle choices. It’s important to keep the communication going, it’s important to listen.

No two days are going to be the same, you are going to come across many situations that you may feel out of your comfort zone. Your training will kick in and you’ll have members there to support you, so don’t be afraid to draw on that.

As long as I’m honest I don’t generally have a problem. You don’t judge the crime, you are dealing with the person.

I actually am proud of what I have accomplished. People have said to me “you are a lot happier now that you are working for Victoria Police”

This challenge came along and this has just been the best decision I could have made.
