Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man following a theft of motor vehicle and series of burglaries at small businesses in Melbourne’s northwest on Christmas Day and into the early hours of Boxing Day.
Investigators will allege the man forced entry to the following locations and stole cash and electrical items:
• A design studio on Stawell Street, Richmond at approximately 7pm on Christmas Day
• A furniture business on Church Street, Richmond at 7.30pm on Christmas Day, where he allegedly stole a vehicle
• A restaurant on Ballarat Road, Deer Park at approximately 5.45am on Boxing Day
• An indoor furniture business on the Western Highway, Ravenhall at approximately 6am on Boxing Day
• Two restaurants on Westwood Drive, Ravenhall at approximately 6.30am on Boxing Day.
The 49-year-old man was arrested at a licensed venue in St Albans about 1pm on 26 December.
The stolen vehicle was recovered in the car park and police allegedly located the stolen items on board.
The Altona Meadows man has been charged with a number of offences, including:
• Burglary (x6)
• Attempted burglary (x2)
• Theft (x6)
• Criminal damage (x8)
• Commit an indictable offence whilst on bail (x8)
• Unlicenced driving
• Going equipped to steal
• Deal with proceeds of crime.
He will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 27 December.
