Two people who tried to run from a dumped stolen car have been arrested after police foiled their attempt to getaway in a rideshare vehicle.
Broadmeadows members were patrolling this morning when they spotted a car on the wrong side of Johnstone Street travelling contraflow to the traffic in Gladstone Park about 1.10am.
Officers activated their lights and sirens to intercept the small SUV which failed to stop and sped from the scene.
A pursuit was initiated, and the Air Wing was called in to assist units on the ground.
The vehicle was followed through Attwood, Mickleham, Somerton and Greenvale before police lost sight of the car in Westmeadows.
Police on the ground put a cordon in place before the Air Wing located the dumped vehicle in Chadwick Lane Westmeadows.
The Broadmeadows members were still on the hunt when they intercepted a rideshare vehicle on Alanbrae Terrace in Attwood with a man and woman on board.
It was established by police the passengers were picked up by the rideshare driver in the vicinity of where a Dog Squad member and his canine partner had indicated their track went cold.
Police arrested the 33-year-old man and 25-year-old woman and seized quantities of suspected GHB and methylamphetamine.
Enquiries have also revealed the vehicle does not match the QLD registration plate. It is yet to be established if the vehicle is stolen.
The Flemington man and Fawkner woman will now be interviewed by police.
Anyone with dashcam, or motorists who may have witnessed the manner of driving along Johnstone Street, near North Circular Road in Gladstone Park, is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
